Harry S. Truman became President after the death of FDR. World War II ended in August. We began to try to return living the way it was before the war.

Our favorite songs were Sentimental Journey, It's Been a Long, Long Time, and Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. We watched Bing Crosby at the movies and listened to Bob Hope on the radio. The Tigers beat the Cubs, 4 games to 3, to win the Series. The University of Tulsa beat Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

Our soldiers returned home - and so did Rosie the Riveter. Jackie Robinson made the majors. American Airlines made the first commercial flight from New York to England.

And City Mattress Company opened its doors as a family owned business. Today's City Mattress is built just like it was in 1945. The values that were so much a part of life then, have endured.
